Dental Anxiety is not uncommon. We know that a lot of people don’t eagerly await their next dental appointment. Our team at Woodstock Dental Centre strives to make your every experience a comfortable and painless one. All of us know someone who simply dreads the thought of a checkup and put it off for years.

While we pride ourselves on providing a welcoming environment here at Woodstock Dental Centre for our waiting patients, children can often struggle with dental anxiety on their first dental visit. Sometimes, this anxiety is from their previous visits to other dental clinics, or simply be general anxiety with the fear of pain. To help address your child’s dental anxiety, you can do several things like—taking them for a friendly visit at our office to meet the dentist, explaining what happens during a dental visit,  having your child listen or watch something pleasant during their cleaning.

Irrespective of the level of your anxiety, our dental office is committed to making sure that your visit is as comfortable, quick, and easy as possible. We can ease your anxiety by using sedation dentistry during both simple and complicated procedures.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s also referred to as “sleep dentistry,” although that’s not entirely accurate. With the sedation, patients are usually awake except for those who are under general anesthesia. It is an effective solution for people with a fear or anxiety that is preventing them from getting dental treatments.

Sedation dentistry can also be used by people with:

  • low pain tolerance.
  • hard time staying still in the dentist’s chair.
  • sensitivity in their teeth.
  • bad gag reflex.
  • require long dental procedures to be completed at one time.

Are You A Candidate For Sedation Dentistry?

If you are currently on some medications, then you may not be able to take oral sedation due to complications as every medication can’t be mixed with sedation. You should always fill the patient form with all your allergies and medications you take. It should include every prescribed medication, over-the-counter medication, vitamins, or herbal remedies. In case you don’t mention it to your dentist, he/she may prescribe you oral sedation that won’t work or could have negative side effects when mixed with your current medication. We don’t recommend oral sedation to pregnant women. If you think you might be pregnant, even if you’re not sure yet, make sure to tell your dentist.
