Orthodontic treatment Process by your Woodstock Dentist

1.  Planning Phase
Your first couple of visits to Woodstock Dental Centre will include a medical and dental history evaluation, and x-rays of the teeth and jaws among other diagnostic tools. After careful planning, our highly skilled North York dentist, Dr. David Michaels will design and apply braces that coincide with the treatment plan in effect for you.

2.  Active Phase
The active treatment phase involves visiting Dr. Michaels at our Woodstock dental office on a regular basis for adjustments and following specific treatment requirements to ensure successful results. A monthly appointment is usually required.

3. Retention Phase
When treatment is completed, the braces and/or appliances are removed and a new appliance/retainer is made for you. Sometimes, retainers are removable and sometimes they are fixed by a wire cemented on the inside of your teeth.

Invisalign® clear aligners offered at your Woodstock Dentist

When correcting cosmetic, functional, and or temporomandibular (TM) joint issues, orthodontics is usually the first choice of treatment. Yet, many avoid such treatment due to the stigma of wearing traditional wire-and-post braces. Nearly translucent, Invisalign® orthodontics can help avoid these anxieties.

Invisalign® consists of custom-moulded, clear plastic aligners that gradually straighten the teeth. Over the course of the treatment, a new Invisalign® aligner is placed every two weeks until the desired smile id.s achieve

Frequently Asked Questions

To prevent damage to your brackets and wires, you should avoid "sticky, hard, or crunchy" foods. This includes things like popcorn, nuts, hard candy, gum, and very chewy bagels. We also recommend cutting whole fruits like apples into small pieces rather than biting directly into them.

Brushing and flossing require a bit more effort with braces. We recommend brushing after every meal to remove food trapped in the brackets. You will also need to use a floss threader or a water flosser to clean between the teeth and under the archwire.

Most patients come in every 4 to 8 weeks for an adjustment. During these visits, we may change the elastics or replace the wire to ensure your teeth continue moving in the right direction.

For Invisalign to be effective, you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, and your morning/nightly dental hygiene routine.

Yes! One of the biggest perks of Invisalign is that there are no food restrictions. Because you remove the trays before you eat, you can continue enjoying popcorn, nuts, and other foods that are off-limits for traditional braces.

The best way to clean your aligners is to brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. You can also use specialized Invisalign cleaning crystals. Never use hot water, as it can warp the plastic and ruin the fit of the tray.

  • Choose Braces if: You have a very complex bite issue, or if you prefer a "set-it-and-forget-it" treatment that doesn't rely on you remembering to put trays back in.

  • Choose Invisalign if: You want a nearly invisible look, the freedom to eat any food, and the ability to brush and floss normally.
